Imphal, April 02 2024:
Urging the people of Manipur not to take the ensuing Lok Sabha election lightly, RPI-A candidate Maheshwar Thounaojam has called upon the masses to play their part in making the election free and fair.
Addressing the media at his Keishampat residence, here, on Tuesday, Maheshwar said that thousands of families affected by the now 11-month-old crisis are still living in relief camps unable to return to their homes.
Even though there is a lull in armed skirmishes, the situation cannot be mistaken for peace as one could only claim of restoration of normalcy after the displaced people return to their home safely.
In such a situation, holding the election is uncalled but since the ECI has decided to go ahead with the democratic process, people of the state should not take the election lightly, he said.

Highlighting his activities during the crisis, Maheshwar said he raised his voice to Show to the whole nation that Meeteis are being wrongly demonised, with unconditional support of his party.
He also met several key leaders of the Central government and ministry officials, submitted reports and drew their attention towards the need of addressing the underlying causes of the crisis, to which his party also extended full support, Maheshwar maintained.
Stating that he could have contested the election as independent candidate but decided to fight on his party's ticket honouring support extended of party leaders to his campaign, he expressed belief that the party leaders will not cause any trouble as and when he raises the voice of the Meeteis.
