Playwright Laishom Gulap receives memorial award on World Theatre Day

Imphal, April 02 2024:
The Salam Ibemcha and Salam Irabot Memorial Award was handed over to Laishom Gulap, renowned playwright from Hojai, at JNMDA auditorium on the occasion of World Theatre Day and the inaugural ceremony of the two-day Indo-Bangla International Interdisciplinary Seminar.
The event was jointly organised on March 27 by the Palem Panthou Cultural Trust, Langjing Achouba, Imphal West and its affiliate branch TALA.
The biannual award is sponsored by Salam Shantibala, managing trustee, secretary, Palem Panthou Cultural Trust.
The award acknowledges exemplary works in the field of theatre, literature and creative art by citizens of Manipur and the Manipuri diaspora settled outside.
It comes with a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a citation and a shawl.
The event was attended by social activist Dr Elangbam Amitkumar; P Bilash, Director, JNMDA and Budha Ch, Member, Board of Governors, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata.
During the seminar, 24 scholars presented their papers including scholars from Bangladesh and Hojai.
The seminar was moderated by Professor Nahakpam Aruna, former Dean, School of Humanities, MU; Dr M Thoiba, Assistant Professor, HoD Department of Dance and Music, MU and Professor S Lanchenba Meetei, Dean, School of Humanities, DM University among others.
