CM scans market drive, VVF plants saplings

The cleanliness drive covering the three Ima Keithel, along with the adjoining areas of Thangal and Paona Keithel, was conducted under the personal supervision of chief minister N Biren ahead of the World Environment Day (WED) observance, on Sunday.
Inspecting the cleanliness programme, CM Biren instructed those involved in the drive to clear the garbage dumped along the Naga Nullah along Nagamapal stretch.
He declared that cleanliness drive will be carried out on the first day of every Manipuri lunar calendar month in Thangal and Paona bazar area and around Imphal area, extending to Chingmeirong in the north, Tera bazar in the west and Airport road in the south.
Chief minister N Biren also took to social media expressing satisfaction on being part of the community social service initiative aimed at maintaining cleanliness in the Imphal area in preparation for World Environment Day.
He expressed gratitude to government officials, club volunteers, and individuals who participated in the drive.
While maintaining that it is our bonded duty to safeguard the environment which is our biggest resource, chief minister N Biren also appealed to all concerned to contribute their mite in protecting the environment by planting trees and reducing usage of plastics.
During the supervision, the chief minister was also accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, works minister Govindas Konthoujam, PHE minister Leishangthem Robindro, Moirang MLA Th Shanti and officials concerned.
Meanwhile, members of Village Volunteer Force (VVF), Manipur carried out a tree plantation drive at the historic Heibok Ching (hill range) at Narakonjin, Imphal West district on Sunday.
In this regard, WF president Takhellambam Ramananda hoped that the two-day drive would help in afforestation of the hill range and reduce the impacts from climate change.
He continued that over 40 villages have been benefitted under the Green Revolution movement of VVF, and appreciated the forest and horticulture departments for providing the tree saplings.
