Imphal, June 15 2026:
Terming it "unfortunate", the LMS Law College Students' Union has flagged the absence of academic activities such as seminars, workshops, extension lectures, and moot courts during the 2025-2026 session.
Addressing the media at the Chingmeirong campus today, general secretary Yengkhom Wangthoi said the Union had met the Principal and faculty in April.
With Manipur under shutdown, it was agreed to conduct the activities after the May semester exams.
However, when reminded on June 8, the Principal reportedly said the college account had no funds as all money was paid to the Bar Council of India for 2026, 2027, and 2028 fees.
Wangthoi noted that students had paid Rs 4,75,400 as BCI fees during admission.
"Denying students knowledge-based activities in a professional legal institution is a grave loss and violates students' rights", he said, claiming the Principal told the Union it had "no right to question" .
The Union filed an RTI on June 9 with the State Public Information Officer, DMU, seeking details of the college account.
It demanded a response within the statutory period under Section 7(1) of the RTI Act, 2005, warning of further action if deemed refusal occurs.
