SDSA intensifies economic embargo

Senapati, July 14 2024:
With no response generated to its appeal for ceasing harassments to commuters along the national highway, Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has intensified the economic embargo at the district headquarters, imposed since two days back.
The students' body set up a checkpoint and has tightened the embargo imposed on the Kukis.
When asked about the reason, SDSA stated that it was a follow up to their order issued on June 21 .
SDSA emphasised that the economic embargo was necessitated as their earlier appeal to stop harassing innocent travellers along NH 2 and to maintain the highway as a safe zone for all, was met with silence and defiance from the Kuki brethren.
It also claimed that after their press statement on June 3 appealing to all parties to keep NH as safe zone for all, extreme atrocities against the Nagas along the highway have increased.
It may be mentioned that two pick-up trucks belonging to Liangmai Nagas were hijacked near Damdei College Junction, Motbung and a huge ransom money demanded without any valid reason.
SDSA executives reportedly intervened after which the trucks were released unconditionally.
On June 12 and 14, LPG trucks carrying supplies for Senapati were stopped allegedly by armed Kuki miscreants for extortion purposes.
Fearing for their safety, the drivers had to return to the gas plant, resulting in shortage of cooking gas for the people of Senapati.
It was only after the counter-blockade was started by Senapati Gas Agencies Association that the KSO met with SDSA and came to an understanding with the LPG agencies.
On the night of June 19, a truck was set ablaze near the Orange Farm, just below T Khullen, allegedly by Kuki miscreants.
SDSA emphasised that such arsons are total disrespect and a direct challenge to their authority, showing the audacity to commit such a heinous crime within their jurisdiction.
These are just a few of the countless atrocities that have been meted out to Nagas since the start of the conflict that have occurred within last month alone, it claimed.
Pointing out that throughout the unrest situation in the state, Nagas have maintained a peaceful, neutral stance, SDSA conveyed that on their part they have extended a helping hand, providing medical assistance to the neighbouring Kuki brethren, treating their injured patients and ensuring they get all the necessary help needed.
The students' body stated that they have given them free access to the market and town and ensured that they enjoyed equal treatment and safety.
They have been accommodative and tolerant as much as possible.
All along, the SDSA has maintained their jurisdictional area, a peaceful and a neutral zone where people of both the conflicting communities were living and thriving peacefully, it stressed.
SDSA maintained that however, having had enough experiences, the step to check all vehicles was necessitated and was forced to initiate the agitation to show their condemnation.
Their motive was initially to let the Kuki brethren know of the grievances and unhappiness in a peaceful way, but having been met with silence and defiance, SDSA is impelled to take up such embargo as a form of non-cooperation and non-compliance in response to indifference to their plight and troubles caused to the Nagas, the students' body reasoned.
