Thang-Ta Festival concludes

The eight-day Thang-Ta Festival organised by Mangan Thang-Ta Lup concluded today at its training hall in Irom Meijrao.
The festival was conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The valedictory function was graced by dignitaries, including Tongbram Manglemba Singh, chairperson, Lairenjam Meijrao Gram Panchayat, Imphal West District; Laishram Lashamon Singh, secretary, Huyen Lanjang Thang-Ta Association, Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak; Maibam Premabati Leima, president, Plem Thang-Ta Shindam Shang, Sagolband Tera Tongbram Leikai; Thiyam Kora Singh, president, Thang-Ta & Cultural Association, Thiyam Leishangkhong; Khuraijam Nilakanta Khanganba, president, Nongchup Pana Huyen Langlon Singdam Sing, Yurembam; Shandam Ibomcha Singh, president, Universal Huyen Langlon Academy, Samorou Makha Leikai; and Moirangthem Binoy Meitei, secretary.

Speaking on the occasion, Thiyam Kora Singh lauded Mangan Thang-Ta Lup for organising the festival to promote the indigenous martial art form which holds great significance to the history and culture of the State.
He asserted that Thang-Ta plays a vital role in inculcating discipline apart from imparting martial art tactics.
Tongbram Manglemba and Laishram Lashamon emphasized on the importance of learning the age-old Thang-Ta art form from grass root level to popularise it and to ensure that it is practised in every household.
They also called for collective effort to safeguard & promote the indigenous culture and traditions of Manipur so that its legacy will be carried forth to coming generations for a strong and developed society.
Cultural programmes by students from different Huyen Langlon Thang-Ta associations were the main highlight of the event.
