Kukis desperate to gain external support: UMO

Imphal, September 02 2023: United Mothers' Organisation (UMO) has called upon the people of Manipur to realise the desperate attempt of Kuki community to gain international support and to take precautions accordingly.

In a statement, UMO contended that the Kuki community is in a desperate situation after their failed attempt to disintegrate the state by plotting ethnic violence.

With the Central government as well as international community not impressed with their propaganda, they are trying to gain external support.

The recent cycle of attacks after a long hiatus is part of their new phase of aggression, UMO said while urging the common people to understand their strategies.

Recently the union home minister said in the Parliament that there are external hands behind the violence in the state.

However, it was unfortunate for human rights activist Babloo Loitongbam to react to the HM's statement, UMO said while questioning Babloo's motive.

It also alleged Kuki community of fabricating history and playing minority and victim cards while receive international support adding that the UNC had in one of its statement expressed the same view.

The new phase of the violence that began from the last week of August is aimed at drawing attention of international delegates and dignitaries of the upcoming G20 events with the objective to create a false view to the visiting heads of countries.

People need to understand this strategy and stay alert, the statement said.

It further maintained that the present crisis in the state will remain as dark chapter in the history of Manipur, especially as the government has failed to either control the violence and restore peace or conduct a normal assembly session even for one day.

The so-called public leaders, who rose to power with the support of electors, are now unable to shoulder their responsibilities, UMO said and added that now is not the time for ruling and opposition to engage in firing political salvos against each other.

On the other hand, UMO welcomed the CM's appeal to unite CSOs, as it is the need of the hour.

It, however, advised the 50 remaining MLAs to unite first and show the ideals of responsible public representatives.

Calling as unfortunate that some Meetei MLAs did not sign the memorandum for upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur submitted to the Prime Minister, a representation which was also signed by Naga MLAs, UMO claimed that it is well aware about some MLAs, who value the state more than their leader, and exhorted the legislators to declare their stand publicly.

The statement also strongly condemned the silence of union minister of state for external affairs RK Ranjan in this critical situation when common people, who are finding it hard to make a decent livelihoods are sacrificing their lives for the sake of the state's territory.
