AIR Imphal celebrates 50 glorious years in service

Imphal, October 26 2013 : Along with honouring many eminent retired employees of AIR, Imphal and other personalities who were associated since the inception of AIR, Imphal in 1963 and took significant roles in the development of the radio station, the golden jubilee of All India Radio (AIR) Imphal Station was celebrated at the auditorium of MFDC located within Palace Compound here today.

Presided over by C.Lalrosanga, ADG (NER), AIR and Doordarshan, the celebration for 50 glorious years of AIR Imphal in the service of the people, was attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi as Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi said that in view of the power situation in the State, his Govt is giving priority in the power sector to improve the power supply.

He also assured of stabilization of power supply for the Mayang Imphal high power transmitter by giving a dedicated power line for uninterrupted power supply if not already extended.

CM, O Ibobi went on to say that his government is making efforts to provide at least 20 hours of power supply per day in the urban areas and 12 hours a day in the rural areas of the State.

Lauding the role of All India Radio, Imphal, as a public service broadcaster, Ibobi said that AIR, Imphal has been instrumental in preserving and promoting the art & culture of Manipur as well as strengthening the unity & integrity of the state and the country as well.

Furthermore, he assured of extending his cooperation for further development of AIR Imphal station as well as of putting pressure to the Union I&B Minister for filling up the many posts which are lying in the station for the last many years.

It may be recalled here that functioning from a small room attached to the bungalow of Raj Bhawan, AIR, Imphal was commissioned on August 15,1963 with a modest transmission capacity of 1 KW MW transmitter.

But today, it has grown into a very powerful Radio Station in the country with 300KW MW transmitter, 50 KW SW-transmitter and a 10 KW FM transmitter.
