Imphal, May 25 2024:
Condemning desecration of the sacred shrine of Ibudhou Pakhangba located atop Uyal Cheiraoching just a day before performing the ritual of 'Pakhangba Chenghongba', Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) has stressed the need for framing pilgrimage tourism rules to protect indigenous shrines as well as to improve the local economy.
In a release, UKAL secretary publicity Th Ratankumar pointed out that desecration of the indigenous shrines of Meetei has been continuing.
The recent desecration of the shrine of Ibudhou Pakhangba added more despair to Meetei populace, he said, while urging authorities concerned to take up necessary actions.
The future of the religious shrines is uncertain as people have been leaving these shrines unattended for more than a year now since the outbreak of ethnic conflict between the Meeitei and Kuki in the state on May 3, 2023 .
So, there is a need for organising meeting at religious shrines every month to discuss welfare of the community, he added.
