After detection of Abdul Kadir's body buried at the Nambul river bank around 7 am Tuesday, the body was exhumed by Wangoi police along with forensic experts in the presence of executive magistrate and representatives of the JAC formed to pursue the case.
The exhumed body has been deposited at RIMS mortuary for post mortem and other necessary procedures.
As news of recovery of the body spread, residents of Paobitek village launched an intense protest prompting police to fire tear gas shells to control the situation.
The protest, however, culminated in a public meeting convened by the JAC formed in connection with Abdul Kadir's death.
Meanwhile, the JAC informed Wangoi PS that Kadir (29), son of Chesam Abdul Zalinasi of Paobitek Mayai Leikai was a differently-abled person possessing disability certificate issued by Social Welfare Department.
His whereabouts remained unknown since June 10 evening.
On the other hand, nine persons including six members of the Arambai Tenggol have been rounded up connection with the case along with recovery of five vehicles including three Maruti Gypsy used by the murder suspects.
The nabbed persons are identified as Longjam Henson alias Naocha Meitei (24/AT) and Thounaojam Ashok Singh (20/AT) of Wangoi Longjam Leikai, Huidrom Shyamsunder Singh (30/AT) of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai Teramakhong, Huidrom Somokanta Singh of Yumnam Huidrom Khunyai, Huidrom Dipak Singh of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, Thingujam Ranjit Singh (AT) of Yumnam Huidrom Khunyai Leikai, Heikrujam Prafulo Singh (35) of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, Heikrujam Premchand alias Puremba (28) of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai and Sapam Dayani Devi (42) of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai.
All of them were produced before the court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody.
Abdul Kadir was reportedly accused of theft and assaulted by some people, following which he was reported missing.
Killing of the physically challenged man triggered widespread outrage across the state, particularly among the Meitei Pangal (Muslim) community and vehement condemnations.
Various organisations termed the act a "heartless crime" and linked it to a disturbing pattern of violence, including killings, abductions, and extortion, reported in Manipur's valley region over the past two years.
They appealed to the Governor and the Centre for immediate intervention to ensure justice for the victim.
