GSI unveils information panels at Loktak Geotourism Site to promote geoheritage awareness

The Geological Survey of India (GSI), North Eastern Region (NER) has unveiled information panels at the Loktak Geotourism Site, marking a significant step toward promoting awareness of the region's unique geological heritage and encouraging geotourism.
As per a release issued by GIS, the panels were installed at Sendra and Haoreng Pandon.
The panels are designed to provide visitors, students, and researchers with accessible information about the geological significance of the Loktak area.
The information panel was inaugurated by Dr SK Kulshrestha, Deputy Director General and HOD, GSI, NER, Shillong, and Rajeeva Roy, Deputy Director General, GSI, SU: Manipur and Nagaland.
The event was also attended by officials from the Loktak Development Authority, academicians, local community members, and other GSI officials.
During the event, speakers highlighted the importance of preserving geoheritage sites and promoting sustainable tourism practices that benefit both the environment and local communities.
Academicians present appreciated the initiative, noting that such interpretive panels play a crucial role in public education and scientific outreach.
An interactive session allowed local community members, students, and researchers to engage in discussions about the lake's geological importance and the potential for geotourism development.
