Imphal, April 02 2009: Two IED fitted in pressure cookers were detected today from near the Indira Park in the heart of the and near the office of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur located opposite to the Imphal west district police headquarter.

A police team led by Imphal west district SP,L Kailun has also conducted a search operation for bomb at Khoyathong area near the PWD office complex tonight at around 9.30 pm.

No bomb was found during the operation.

The bomb at Indira Park was found inside a pressure cooker at a corner of a convert near the entrance gate of the park on the foot path by wrapping with paper.

A team of Imphal west police led by an inspector detected it at around 4 pm.

Police personnel first tested it by kicking out and later found the bomb inside the cooker when open the pressure cooker.

Police later called out personnel of the police bomb disposal squad who confirmed material containing inside the pressure cooker as explosive material.

Later, a police Gypsy vehicle drew the cooker with a rope upto Mantripukhri and destroyed it at the Firing range there at around 6.30 pm.

According to person nearby the Indira Park said that the pressure cooker was seen there where venders and shopkeepers near the park used to dump wastes since around 10 am.

But they didn't think it to be explosive till late.

They also assumed that the bomb had not been triggered as many children turned up to enjoy at the Indira Park even though general strike was imposed today in the state.

Another IED fitting in a pressure cooker was also detected placed at the by-lane next to BSEM office at Bapupara by the police tonight at around 9 pm.

Later the bomb has been destroyed at Koirengei tonight after carrying there by a team of Imphal west police commandos led by OC Krishnatombi.

Meanwhile, tonight at around 9.30 pm, a team of Imphal west police led by Imphal west SP, L Kailun conducted a search for bomb near the Khoyathong PWD office complex after they got reliable information that a bomb has been planted there by some anti-social elements.

The search for the bomb was also conducted on the Kangla Moat side opposite to PWD office but no such thing was detected during the operation.
