Imphal, April 02 2009:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Brutal Killing of Dr Th Kishan, driver A Rajen Sharma and Revenue Mandal Y Token has announced its decision of boycotting the proposed visit of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on April 4 .
In this connection, the JAC has also called a general strike in the State with effect from 4 am of April 4 to 6 pm.
It is said that educational institutions and its activities like class attendance and examinations would also come under the purview of the general strike.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC convenor S Subhangkar contended that the proposed visit of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is an insult to the people of Manipur.
When the Government of Manipur and UPA Government at the Centre have remained indifferent to the people of Manipur who have been launching various agitations for the last 50 days demanding punishment of the killers of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr Kishan and his two sub-ordinate staff, the proposed visit of Sonia Gandhi to Manipur in connection with election campaign of the Congress party is an insult to the people, Subhangkar asserted.
Questioning how the people of Manipur are supposed to welcome her in such a situation, Subhangkar categorically stated that the proposed visit of Sonia Gandhi who has not spoken anything not only on the triple murder but also on the issue of over 8 years long agitation of Irom Chanu Sharmila and public agitation over Manorama incident would be boycotted by the JAC and the people of Manipur.
