Imphal, April 02 2009:
Normal life in Manipur was affected today following the 24-hour general strike called by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr Th Kishan and his two subordinate staff in protest against failure of the Government to punish the killers.
However, there is no report of any untoward incident during the strike which came into effect from last midnight.

The State administration had also taken up stringent security measures along with deployment of police and IRB personnel at various strategic points of Greater Imphal area. Nonetheless, strike supporters reportedly burnt down the effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, suspended Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Pankaj Kumar and leaders of the NSCN (IM) at many parts of Imphal Greater area.
The impact of the strike was felt not only in Imphal Greater area but also in four valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur district.
Attendance in Government offices and educational institutions, though remain opened, is also reported thin.
But the ongoing TDC examination conducted by the Manipur University continued without any hindrances.
Shops and other business establishment not only in Kwairamband Bazar, the commercial hub of the State but also in other four valley districts remained down their shutters for the day.
Though the market places in the hill districts reportedly witnessed normal business transaction, suspension of the inter district bus transport system connecting the State capital with other hill districts remained affected for the day.
The strike, however, seemed to have no effect in the election fever with many political parties continuing with their scheduled election campaign and public meetings.
Flight service was also normal.
