Imphal, November 23 2018:
The JAC formed in connection with the abduction of Khundongbam Doren (40) of Nachou Kha Leikai, Bishnupur district, on November 9, has threatened to call a bandh along Tiddim road from midnight of tomorrow till 6 pm of November 25, condemning the failure of the police and the authority concerned to take up any positive measures regarding the abduction.
A press release issued by the secretary of the JAC today conveyed that Doren went missing on November 9, Ningol Chakkouba day, after he went out from his residence at around 3.30 pm on a two wheeler vehicle.
Pointing out that his abandoned vehicle was later found near Upokpi, Tiddim road, the JAC explained that a missing person report was filed at Bishnupur PS at around 7.30 pm the same day.
In the meantime, at around 9.36 pm, the family members received a WhatsApp message which contained a blindfolded and gagged photo of Doren and which claimed that Doren had been abducted, the JAC conveyed and added that Bishnupur police was immediately informed and urged to take up necessary actions immediately to rescue Doren.
However, an FIR was lodged only on November 11, the JAC lamented and claimed that on November 15, at around 2 pm, police caught one Moirangthem Noren alias Ithoiba (40) of Nachou Kha Leikai for alleged connection with the disappearance of Doren but he was later let go at around 6.30 pm as he reportedly did not have any connection with the case.
The JAC mentioned that till date, there has been no positive development regarding the disappearance of Doren and added that yesterday, the locals of Nachou held a joint meeting where it was resolved to call a bandh along Tiddim road from tomorrow midnight till 6 pm of November 25 condemning the failure of the police and the authority concerned to find out any lead regarding the disappearance and whereabouts of Doren.
The JAC also urged the people to fully support the bandh as well.
On the other hand, People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has questioned the failure of Bishnupur police to find the whereabouts of Khundongbam Doren as well to catch his abduetors till date.
A press release issued by the secretary information and publicrelation of PANDM further questioned why the DGP Manipur Police as well as the Chief Minister have failed to take up any action against Bishnupur police for neglecting to take up any positive steps despite repeated appeals by the family members and the JAC.
If a CSO decides to take matters into its own hands, it is labelled unlawful.
But when the authority is approached, it is completely neglected, PANDM claimed and questioned the two faced nature of the Government/authority.
PANDM further demanded the Government to do the needful at the earliest and warned that failing to heed the demand and appeal of the JAC and the association concerning the disappearance of Doren, might lead to possible disturbances to the ongoing Sangai Festival.
