Imphal, November 23 2018:
The Government is planning to build cycle tracks in greater Imphal areas to encourage healthy lifestyle and cut fuel usage, said Revenue Minister Karam Shyam.
He was speaking on the sideline of the Cyclothon - Fuel Conservation Campaign which was flagged off from Hotel Imphal with the ultimate objective to promote a sense of fuel conservation.
The event was organised across India.
Revenue Minister Karam Shyam attended the event organized by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd as chief guest while Uttiya Bhattacharyya, CGM, Indian Oil AOD State Office, Prof Sinam Rajendra Singh, National vice-president, Bharat Vikash Parishad and Sinam Ibungoton Singh, Deputy General Manager (RS) & State Level Coordinator attended the event as president and guests of honour respectively.
Karam Shyam flagged off the cyclothon and also released a "Joint Hands" CD for the Indian Oil Channel Partners.
The cycle rally proceeded towards Assembly Road, Thangmeiband Traffic Island arid Khuyathong road, PWD Office to the western side of Kangla Fort and then headed towards Governor's compound.
The rally continued towards the eastern side of traffic near RTS school and finally headed towards Minuthong bridge before ending at the Hotel Imphal.
The cyclothon encourages people to cycle one day in a week.
If all people endorse this healthy style of cycling instead of using motor vehicles just for a day in a week, then the country will be able to save a great deal of fuel and control pollution, he said.
"I ride cycle every Thursday to office.
One should not feel shy of using cycle to go to work or use it for other purposes.
One should feel ashamed of using drugs, alcohol and other harmful substances.
But, doing good deeds is rewarding," he said.
"Lets create history and make Manipur - the number one State in the ranking of 'cyclists population' in the entire country, he said.
Renowned cyclist Rohan Philem (23 years), who recently concluded his cycle journey from Sharda University in Greater Noida carrying awareness about the endangered Sangai, was among other cyclists and youths who took part in the rally.
