Paddy transplantation festival "Paoki" celebrated in Purul

Senapati, May 11 2024:
The three-day traditional paddy transplantation festival "Paoki", which is also a tourism festival of Manipur, was celebrated at Purul under Senapati district.
The celebration was organised by the Purul Youth & Students Organization (PYSO) and sponsored by the Tourism Department, Govt of Manipur.
The event was held in the presence of tribe representatives under NPO consisting of the Mao Council, Poumai Naga Union and Zeliangrong Union-Senapati Zone.
Many youths coming from different villages also participated in the wrestling competition on the second day of the festival.
During the wrestling competition, DS Masounii, president, Senapati District Wrestling Association invited all intending candidates for belt wrestling training from June 10 to 20 to be organised by the Association.
The three-day festival was graced by Solomon Arow, president, Naga People's Organization (NPO) as the chief guest.
Notably, the first day of the festival is called Ranai-Yu (Butchering Day/Arrival Day) while the second day is called Thaopai-Yu (Plucking/Gathering of the sapling for transplantation).
The main day of the festival is called Khanai-Yu (Plantation Day) .
The third day of the festival continued with transplantation of paddy.
Male folks visited many fields, extending help in transplantation till late evening.
