Man abducted by men in security' uniform

Unknown gunmen, reportedly wearing 'security' uniform abducted one Sn Stevenson Lamkang (26), son of Sn Bungdon Lamkang of Charangching Khunkha village in Chandel district from a spot in between Tengnoupal town and Saivom village on June 4.According to statements issued by Lamkang civil organisations including Lamkang Naga Kver Kunpun (LNKK), Lamkang Naga Snu Lop (LNSL) and Lamkang Kurchuknao Kunpun, Stevenson was seen leaving Moreh Bazar around 2 pm in an Eeco Van (MN04P 1921) on June 4.On the way at about 4 pm, his vehicle was seen checked by gunmen clad in camouflage uniform near the under-construction bridge of Khongkhang village.
Thereafter, the vehicle was seen heading towards Tengnoupal district headquarters with one armed person in the vehicle.
As per CCTV footage of AR checkpoint at Sita Lamkhai, the Eeco van along with the driver and another person wearing mil itary dress was seen crossing the checkpoint without completing the entry formality.
Though tailed by two other vehicles whose occupants reportedly identified themselves as CRPF personnel to the Assam Rifles troopers manning the check point, the said Eeco van was found abandoned near Saivom village while whereabouts of driver Stevenson remain unknown as his phone was found in switched-off mode, the Lamkang bodies claimed, adding that an FIR has been lodged at Tengnoupal police station on Wednesday morning.
The release demanded authority concerned for ensuring safe release of the innocent person within 24 hours while cautioning of launching intense agitation in case of failure.
Meanwhile, Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) expressed serious concern over suspected abduction of Stevenson and failure by the government authorities to locate his whereabouts even after two days of the incident involving men in 'security' uniform.
"The CNPO in solidarity with the Lamkang tribe apex bodies warn authority/responsible agency to release him safe and sound without any condition at the earliest, failing which CNPO will take up its own course of action and any unfortunate eventualities thereafter will be the sole responsibility of the authority concerned/government," the release said.
