Senapati flood: Surgeon dies, one missing

A dental surgeon was swept away by river water in Senapati when he slipped into the river trying to push an Eeco vaff that got stuck due to mudslide on the NH-2 road.
The incident took place in between District Council office and Vakho, around 1 km from Senapati police station.
The dental surgeon and his friends were returning to Khabung Karong from Senapati bazar at about 1.50 am Tuesday when the van got stuck amid the mudslides.
Filled with mud, the dental surgeon reportedly tried to assist the van despite drizzling and fell into the river.
On receiving the report, Senapati police rushed to the spot and assisted in the search for the missing youth.
However, with no means, the search team left while lifeless body of the dental surgeon was found by some villagers near Vakho village at daybreak.
Indian Red Cross Society, Senapati along with some locals retrieved the body from the river.
The victim was later identified as A Seisou (25), son of S Apao of Khabung Karong village.
Meanwhile, another youth who was swept away by river water on July 1 at about 3 pm is still missing although a search is ongoing.
Notably, IMD issued Orange Alert for Senapati district and rain continues in the district till the time of filing this report.
The district administration had issued an advisory notice on Sunday.
Many paddy fields close to river banks have also been inundated by rising water level thereby raising concerns to many farmers in the district.
Flood caused by rising water level of Iril river at Ngamju village worsened by mid noon Tuesday.
Local farmers informed that paddy fields belonging to more than 80 families were affected by the rising river water while some fish ponds too have been inundated.
Paddy plantation in the village was done in the first week of June, villagers informed.
Ngamju village chairman informed that it would be impossible for farmers to replant paddy again due to presence of river stones and sand in the paddy fields and drew attention of authorities concerned to arrange alternative means for the affected farmers of the village.
Similar incidents of affecting paddy fields have also been reported at different places of the district.
