Drivers join ILPS stir; suspends service

Passenger service along the Tiddim Road was suspended as all drivers from Bishnupur District staged a massive protest rally to demand Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) on Sunday.
Educated Self-Employment Express Service, Bishnupur District Tata Magic Association, Thanga Auto/Iris Owners' Welfare Association, All Moirang Auto Rickshaw Owners' Association, Tractor Owners' Association, Bishnupur and LCTS organised a massive rally in support of the ILP movement spearheaded by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) .
More than 700 passenger vehicles, including tractors, took part in the demonstration.
A large number of personnel from Moirang Police Station took up precautionary measures to avert any untoward incident.
The rally kicked-off from Moirang Keithel.
The police trailed the vehicle rally proceeding towards Imphal and stopped it at Ngaikhong Khunou.
A skirmish ensued between the police and the protesters, but the rally was broken midway.
Then, it returned to Moirang Keithel where a huge meeting was held.
The meeting demanded that the State Government pass an ILP bill and implement it without delay to safeguard the indigenous people.
It called on the people to continue the ILP movement together until the Government met the demand.
The meeting also demanded that all police personnel involved in the Sapam Robinhood killing must be punished.
