MCM sets rider for pull out of BSF

Imphal, May 12 2024: Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has appealed to the government not to withdraw the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed in Moreh and Kwatha area prior to deployment of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) to protect the area.

Denouncing steps reportedly taken up by the government to withdraw the BSF deployed to protect the different communities residing in Moreh and Meeteis in Kwatha village, MCM president M Thoiba suggested that in case withdrawal of BSF is truly needed, then the IRB should first be deployed in the said locations to protect the people from the attacks of Kuki narco-terrorists.

He also appealed to the state government to take up effective steps to protect the life and property of civilians while pointing out that the communities still settling in Moreh are all involved in small businesses and trade.

Despite the presence of state forces, special commandos, Moreh police, IRB and Tengnoupal district police round the clock, many unwanted incidents continue to happen.

As such, the withdrawal of central forces like the BSF amid such uncertain situation could lead to disastrous and tragic consequences, he remarked.

It may be mentioned here that MCM secretary general Leishanthem Brojendro Meetei had written to the security advisor on April 26, decrying a similar attempt to remove central paramilitary forces from Moreh.

In the letter, Brojendro had mentioned reports from reliable sources regarding the removal of central paramilitary forces particularly BSF, currently stationed in Moreh, in connection with the 18th Lok Sabha election.

As Moreh is a sensitive place, bordering Myanmar and prone to external aggression, as could be comprehended by the present day conflict and acknowledged by the union government, there is a need for deployment of more central forces in Moreh.

Removing the central forces from the border town will only embolden external elements to harm the country, he said, while requesting the security advisor not to remove the central forces but rather deploy more central forces in Moreh.
