TB patients advised to avail treatment facilities

District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC), under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) of the District Health Society, Senapati, observed the 44th World Tuberculosis (TB) Day on Thursday at DRDA Conference Hall, here, under the theme "Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver" .
Senapati CMO Dr Sumpi Percy delivered the inaugural address, providing a brief overview of the history of the TB control programme and its ongoing initiatives aimed at eliminating tuberculosis.
Reflecting on the different types of TB and the treatment available, Dr Percy noted that TB remains one of the oldest communicable diseases yet to be eradicated, and underscored the importance of maintaining a strong immune system.

While identifying individuals with weakened immunity, such as those with diabetes, or those who consume tobacco and alcohol, as being particularly vulnerable, the CMO commended the district tuberculosis officer and her team for their tireless efforts in combating TB in the district.
In her keynote address, Dr L Muanching, district tuberculosis officer, highlighted the district's achievements in reducing TB incidence and mortality rates in recent years.
She detailed various government initiatives, including the Nik-shay Poshan Yojana and PMTBMBA, which support TB elimination efforts.
Dr Muanching acknowledged the crucial roles played by political leaders, government officials, NGOs, and community stakeholders in promoting grassroots-level intervention.
She also informed the gathering about the availability of advanced diagnostic tools in the district, such as the WHO-recommended NAAT molecular test, Truenat machine, and digital X-ray machine - all provided free of cost.
Her address concluded with an appreciation for the contributions of Nikshay Mitras, TB Warriors, volunteers, and programme staff.
As part of the event, Senapati MOTC Dr S Losica RK, presented an informative session on TB through a PowerPoint presentation, covering relevant topics and district-level interventions.
The programme also featured a personal testimony from TB champion Kh Danii, who shared his experience with TB and the treatment process.
In recognition of their support and dedication, six mementos and certificates were presented to the Nikshay Mitras.
Additionally, certificates of appreciation were awarded to 10 TB warriors and 327 volunteers along with distribution of 10 food baskets to TB patients.
The programme was attended by Adahrii Maheo, CEO/ADC, Senapati, along with DLOs, medical officers, CSOs, youth volunteers and medical staff.
