Curtain raiser of Manipuri Poetry Day held

Imphal, October 09 2024: The Department of English, St Joseph University, Nagaland organised a "Curtain Raiser of Manipuri Poetry Day-2024" at the varsity on Wednesday.

The event was chaired by Dr Thokchom Sunanda Devi, HoD, Department of English, St Joseph University, said a release issued by the Department.

In her address, Dr Thokchom Sunanda said that a curtain raiser of Manipuri Poetry Day is held at the department every year ahead of the main event which is observed in Manipur.

During the programme, students from various departments read out poems on different themes including nature, peace, etc.

They also acknowledged the significance of Manipuri Poetry Day in promoting the rich heritage of Manipuri language and literature, emphasizing its role in preserving and celebrating the region's literary tradition.

It may be noted that Manipuri Poetry Day is observed in Manipur by the Fiction and Poetry Club every year in Mera (Manipuri lunar calendar event is scheduled to be held month) and this year, the on October 17, 2024 .
