Hold Panchayat elections, urges ex-ZP Member

Golmei Kachungla, a former Zilla Parishad Member of the Bamon Kampu Zilla Parishad, has urged the Yumnam Khemchand-led Government to implement the Cabinet's February 6 decision to hold pending Panchayat elections.
Kachungla made the appeal today during the 37th Foundation Day of the Pureiromba Youth Club (PYC), Bamon Kampu, and the launch of the 1st PYC Cup 2026.The football tournament is sponsored by the family of the late Thiyam Shyamkumar, the club's founder secretary, in his memory.
Altogether, 26 teams are participating in the tournament.
Speaking at the event, Kachungla expressed hope that the new Government will undertake various initiatives for the welfare of the people.
She welcomed the Cabinet's decision to hold the Panchayat elections and stressed the importance of conducting them without fail.
She noted that a similar decision was made by the previous Government but has not been implemented to date.
She also emphasized that the delay in holding Panchayat elections significantly hinders the development of rural areas and called for genuine representatives to be elected to carry out development work in villages.
PYC president Sapam Inaobi, former Up-Adhyaksha Imphal East Kshetri Tama, AKRUCO convenor Lenin Hirom and Dr Pinky Thiyam, daughter of the Late Shyamkumar were also present at the event.
