Imphal, November 06 2026:
Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University, Prof W Chandbabu, has said that it is important for the emerging youth of the State to file patents for their innovative ideas, so that the State can progress further in the field of Science and Technology.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-day Manipur Innotech Fest 2.0, organised by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Manipur, on November 5 and 6 at Manipur Science Centre, Takyelpat.
The festival was held under the theme "Innovate/Create/Connect", with 17 exhibition stalls showcasing different models and ideas of students and emerging youth of the State.
Prof W Chandbabu said the models and ideas displayed by the exhibitors at the festival clearly show that the State will not lag behind in the field of technology.
Though the State has faced hurdles in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), there is a need to make more efforts to progress further in this field, he added.
He said if the innovative ideas of the emerging youth are not patented in time, many losses may occur and it will be a loss for the youth.
Since the 1980s, India has had a very low rate of patent filing, while countries with high patent filing rates have taken the lead in development, he said.
He expressed hope that if the concerned departments of the Government pay special attention to students passing Class 12 every year, Manipur can also progress further in this field.
Therefore, it is important to properly educate students from Class 7 onwards about IPR, he added.
At today's closing ceremony of Manipur Innotech Fest 2.0, the jury members of the exhibition festival were honoured with gifts as a mark of respect, and prizes were distributed to the stalls which secured top positions in the exhibition to encourage them.
