Ukhrul, August 17 2011:
The Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL) has appealed to all concerned to refrain from plying trucks loaded with goods weighting more than 9 tonnes along the UkhrulJessami stretch of the National Highway 150 as pre-emptive measures.
President of RKL Issac Mashangva pointed out that National Highway 150 has not been repaired for long and anything could happen along the route if heavy and loaded vehicles ply frequently.
With lack of proper maintenance and failure of regular repair, Ukhrul-Jessami Road has almost remained a forbidden road less travelled by for the last 9/10 years.
In such a situation, it may not be fit for heavy vehicles to ply, he observed.
The student leader further pointed out that when many heavy vehicles pass along the single-lane route, it would take an hour for another vehicle in giving side as there is no turning point.
Moreover, it would be dangerous when one tries to make a back turn as there is limited space.
If vehicles were to ply along the route regularly from now on, the student leader suggested that a time table for the incoming and outgoing vehicles be maintained.
This would avoid unwanted incidents along the road.
