Discussion on ''Role of women in today's society" conducted

Imphal, January 29 2025: Apunba Nupi Lup Kshetrigao Kendra organised a public meeting/discussion on the topic, "Role of women in today's society" at Bamonkampu Mayai Leikai community hall today.

Addressing the gathering, Moirangthem Damayenti, president, Apunba Nupi Lup Kshetrigao Kendra, noted the need to uplift the status of women in order to bring development in society.

Stating that women were treated as lower class citizens in the past, she pointed out the evil practices of female infanticide and dowry deaths in states beyond Manipur.

Though society has witnessed some positive changes in this aspect, there is still a great need to improve the condition of women as a whole, she said.

Former Principal of DM College of Arts, Dr Ch Sheelaramani spoke about the contributions of womenfolk to society.

In the backdrop of the protracted conflict, she pointed out that women and men are engaged in safeguarding their villages in the roles of meira paibis and village volunteers.

As a result, they are unable to dedicate their time to fanning activities or selling their wares in the markets.

The session was attended by Kshetri Tama, advisor, Apunba Nupi Lup Kshetrigao Kendra; Thokchom Subita, president, Bamonkampu Meira Paibi; Akoijam Thaba.
