21st Nepra Menjor memorial function held at Khangabok

Thoubal, January 23 2026: The 21st Nepra Menjor Memorial Function was observed today at Nepra Company Mayai Leikai Community Hall, Khangabok, commemorating the life and legacy of Nepra Menjor (1804-1867), a distinguished historical figure who played a pivotal role in Manipur's history.

The memorial function was attended by former Chief Minister and MLA of Thoubal Assembly Constituency, Okram Ibobi Singh; former MLA Okram Landhoni Devi; Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar Singh; and Dr Okram Micky Devi (wife of MLA O Surjakumar), among others, who graced the event as presidium members.

As part of the programme, the dignitaries and villagers offered prayers at the shrine of Arong Ningthou and Sandrik Chaningkhombi located at Nepra Company, followed by floral tributes and prayers at the Nepra Menjor Memorial Stone.

A two-minute silence was also observed to pay homage to the late Nepra Menjor and other forefathers of the State.

The event further recognised the meritorious students of Nepra Company village who secured outstanding marks in the Class X and Class XII examinations for the academic year 2024-25.The students were felicitated with gifts in appreciation of their achievements.

Speaking on the occasion, former Chief Minister and MLA Okram Ibobi Singh said it was a matter of great pride for the villagers that Nepra Menjor, a martyr well known for his patriotism and dedication to the motherland, had played a crucial role in the development of the village.

He recalled that during the Congress regime, steps had been initiated to develop a memorial site at Kangmung Khun, the birthplace of Nepra Menjor, to preserve and honour his legacy.

He stressed that it is the collective responsibility of the people to acknowledge and honour the brave forefathers who laid the foundation for the state's history and identity.
