ICAR-Manipur conducts KBA awareness programme at Nambol

As part of the month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan (KBA) 2026 campaign, the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre.
Lamphelpat, organised an awareness programme on sustainable crop production and soil health management at Oinam Nongthombam Leikai under Nambol Block on Monday.
The programme was conducted under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign being observed from June 1 to 30 with the objective of promoting soil health management, sustainable agricultural intensification and climate-smart farming practices among farming communities across the State.
Addressing the gathering, Dr S Basanta Singh, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR-Manipur Centre, underscored the importance of maintaining healthy soils for sustaining agricultural productivity and ecosystem services.
He urged farmers to adopt integrated nutrient management, balanced fertiliser application, conservation of soil resources and diversified farming systems to improve nutrient-use efficiency, farm profitability and long-term sustainability.
A team of scientists, including Dr A Ratankumar Singh, Senior Scientist (Plant Pathology); Dr N Anando Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy); Dr Chongtham Sonia, Senior Scientist (Animal Sciences); and Dr Konsam Sarika.
Scientist (Genetics and Plant Breeding), delivered technical sessions on various sustainable agricultural technologies.
The experts highlighted the use of biopesticides and eco-friendly crop protection measures for integrated pest and disease management, improved rice varieties for higher productivity and adaptability, and balanced fertiliser use for maintaining soil fertility.
As part of the technology dissemination initiative, battery-operated sprayers and quality seeds of improved rice varieties, namely RC Maniphou-13, RC Maniphou-16 and RC Mani Chakhao-1, were distributed to participating farmers to encourage the adoption of improved crop production and plant protection technologies.
A total of 34 farmers, including 16 women farmers, attended the programme and actively interacted with the scientists on issues related to sustainable agriculture and soil health management.
