AMSU, COCOMI condole demise of Saikhom Kamlakanta

Imphal, September 08 2026: All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) have deeply condoled the untimely demise of Saikhom Kamlakanta, former president and advisor of All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) .

In a statement, AMSU said late Kamlakanta was a dedicated student leader who tirelessly worked for the welfare of Manipuri students in Assam and for the unity of the Manipuri community.

His contribution towards strengthening the bond between AMSU and AAMSU will always be remembered, it said, adding that the student community has lost a sincere leader and guardian figure.

COCOMI said late Kamlakanta, who settled in Cachar generations ago, was a distinguished social activist who never hesitated to speak for his motherland and the Manipuri people.

Since his student days, he led the struggle to address educational hardships of Manipuris in Cachar.

He had also led various public organisations including AAMSU.

His role in bringing together different communities in Cachar for peaceful coexistence was recognised by the Assam Government, it added.

Both organisations prayed for his soul to rest in peace and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
