Imphal, June 06 2024:
Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Thursday visited the relief camp set up at Hostel No 2 in Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal East district, where she enquired about grievances of the flood-affected people taking refuge there since last week.
Meanwhile, Governor Uikey declined to comment on posers raised by media persons regarding public speculation about potential changes in the political landscape of Manipur following the impending formation of a new NDA government led by Narendra Modi.
The Governor simply stated that she has no knowledge regarding any political changes.
During her visit, the Governor distributed drinking water packets and emergency lamps to the affected families living in the relief camp.
This gesture has come in the wake of flash floods that recently ravaged the state, particularly the valley area, causing significant damage to houses and household belongings, and resulting in loss of lives and properties.
She acknowledged the severity of the natural disaster and assured the displaced families of comprehensive effort to assist them.
Anusuiya mentioned that even the Raj Bhavan experienced unprecedented flooding.
'The state witnessed a natural disaster which is very unfortunate, and all-out efforts have been made to extend assistance to the affected people," she said.
The Governor informed the residents that the chief minister and the chief secretary had been directed to take immediate steps for providing relief.
Furthermore, district administrations have been tasked with assessing the situation and conducting surveys to identify and support affected families.
Consoling the displaced people, the Governor assured them of all possible assistance from the Raj Bhavan and the state government.
She emphasised on her commitment to extending support, stating, "Around 138 people from 24 families have been taking shelter in this relief camp, and we will ensure that necessary aid reaches everyone".
On her way back to Raj Bhavan, she inspected several flood-affected areas and made a stop at Nagaram, where she interacted with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel.
She praised their efforts in assisting the administration in reaching out to flood-affected residents in Imphal.
The Governor was accompanied by Imphal East deputy commissioner Khumanthem Diana, and the secretary to the Governor Bobby Waikhom during her visit.
