Speaking as the chief guest, W Birahari Singh, state commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, highlighted the significance of Purple Fest in empowering Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
He noted that the festival serves as a vital platform for PwDs to exhibit their talents in arts, crafts and cultural performances, fostering their visibility and recognition in society.
W Birahari underscored the importance of full societal inclusion for PwDs, stating, "Progress cannot be achieved without the active participation of every individual, regardless of ability.
Purple Fest stands as a testament to resilience, inclusivity, and empowerment".
He further remarked that the festival symbolises justice, dignity, and pride, reinforcing the need for equal opportunities for all.
"This event is more than a celebration - it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are valued members of society.
The colour purple represents justice and pride, reminding us of their remarkable contributions," he added.
The chief guest also urged the public to support, educate, and empower PwDs instead of marginalising them, encouraging them to utilise government welfare schemes designed for their upliftment.
Additionally, he invited individuals to seek assistance from his office for any challenges PwDs may face.
W Birahari called for practical action in policy implementation, stating, "As we conclude today's event, let us carry forward the principles of understanding, acceptance, and advocacy.
We must work towards ensuring accessibility, education, and employment opportunities for all.
To those who inspire us with their courage and perseverance this celebration is for you.
Your dreams are valid, your voices are powerful, and together, we will build a truly inclusive society".
The event featured cultural performances by PwDs and local artists, showcasing the extraordinary talent within the community.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were N Khoibi Singh, director CRCSRE Imphal, who presided over the function, and Brahmacharimayum Hirendra Sharma, Lt Colonel, 4 Gorkha Rifles, who was the guest of honour.
