Imphal, August 08 2025:
The Federation of All Tribal Youth Club Manipur has urged the Governor to appoint a tribal IAS officer as the Additional Chief Secretary of Tribal Affairs and Hills.
Speaking to reporters at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal today, spokesperson of the federation, Chipemlei said the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department needs a tribal IAS officer who understands the tribal people and the department.
Currently, Anurag Bajpai, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), is also holding the post of Additional Chief Secretary of Tribal Affairs and Hills.
The PCCF heading the Tribal Affairs and Hills has hindered the functioning of the department, and he is not available when needed, Chipemlei said.
The federation, in the past, has submitted a memorandum to the Governor and relevant authorities of the Government to appoint a tribal IAS officer in the Tribal Affairs and Hills.
However, this appeal has not been heard, Chipemlei said.
The PCCF is not suited for the office of the Tribal Affairs and Hills.
Replacing him with a tribal IAS officer will improve the functioning of the Tribal Affairs and Hills and address the plights of the tribal people including students, Chipemlei added.
