Pherzawl, November 06 2026:
Pherzawl district has achieved a significant milestone in its fight against HIV/AIDS by attaining the 'Surakshit' status in October 2026 for meeting the 95:95:95 HIV targets under the Mobilization for AIDS Suraksha (MAS), an initiative of the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO).
The achievement was formally recognised during the SAMMAAN SAMAAROH.
With this recognition, Pherzawl has emerged as one of only two districts in Manipur to achieve the Surakshit District status, marking a notable step forward in strengthening the district's HIV response.
Deputy Commissioner of Pherzawl, Anunay Anand, IAS, congratulated the team for its dedicated efforts and acknowledged the consistent support and guidance extended by MACS in achieving the milestone.
He urged the team to sustain the achievement, emphasising that maintaining the status was as important as attaining it.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Pherzawl, Dr Lalzarzolien Hmar, attributed the achievement to the continued support of the State Government, coordination and guidance of the District Administration under the Deputy Commissioner, the CMO Office and partner NGOs.
She reiterated the collective commitment of the district administration and the people to sustain the progress and work towards achieving the comprehensive 'Surakshit Plus' status in the future.
Meanwhile, reinforcing its commitment to HIV prevention and awareness, health camps and villagelevel Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns under the theme 'Know Your HIV Status' were conducted at PHC Patpuihmun and Kangreng Government High School.
IEC materials were also distributed to Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) to facilitate door-to-door awareness campaigns and encourage greater community participation in HIV prevention initiatives.
The recognition is expected to further strengthen the district's efforts towards sustained HIV awareness, prevention and community engagement, with the ultimate goal of achieving 'Surakshit Plus' status.
