Imphal, April 05 2025:
Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), general headquarters, has strongly opposed the inclusion of tribal individuals in the State Level Committee on Delimitation constituted by the BJP Manipur Pradesh.
According to a statement of TYCM, three tribal individuals namely Dipu Gangmei (MLA Nungba), Jonathan Tao (BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president) and Preshow Shimray (BJP state spokesperson) were named in the 13-member State Level Committee on Delimitation constituted by BJP Manipur Pradesh on April 3 .
The committee, however, was constituted after the party had in its meeting on April 1, decided to oppose the delimitation exercise based on 2001 census data citing abnormal growth of population in some districts, the TYCM said, voicing opposition to the stand taken by the BJP Manipur Pradesh against the delimitation exercise.
Questioning the BJP Manipur Pradesh on constitution of the committee after the party had already resolved to oppose the delimitation exercise, the TYCM said inclusion of any tribal individual in the committee once such resolution was adopted becomes baseless, invalid and meaningless.
The TYCM also urged the three tribal committee members to clarify their positions as acceptance of appointment implies concurrence with the party's resolution opposing the delimitation, which is contrary to interests and aspirations of the tribal populace of Manipur.
While welcoming the Supreme Court's directive to complete delimitation process for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland within three months, the TYCM said that the Government of India had already rectified anomalies, errors and flaws in the census of 2001 in respect of Manipur state and even published in the official Gazette Notifications of India.
