Essay competition on 'Road safety' conducted

Imphal, February 11 2024:
As part of the observance of National Road Safety Month 2024, a 1-day essay competition on "Road safety and importance of its awareness to us" was conducted today at JNV's hall, Yaralpat, Imphal East.
The competition was organised by the Transport Department, Government of Manipur in collaboration with the Institute of Drivers Training & Research Centre (IDTRC) Manipur, with the aim to educate children on safety measures to prevent road accidents and unwanted loss of lives & properties.
According to a release issued by Doren Heisnam, Project Manager, IDTRC Manipur, about 35 children from various schools participated enthusiastically in the event.
The competitors were divided into three categories- (I-IV), (V-VIII) & (IX-XII) .
The programme was attended by I Hemochdra, DTO, Imphal West; Kh Sanjiv, DTO, Thoubal; L Johnson, DTO, Churachandpur; Kh Jimmy DTO, Bishnupur; Doren Heisnam; Kh Deben, Vice-Presdent, IDTRC; N Kamalkanta, art teacher JNV and M.Tamphasana, english teacher JNV among others.
Speaking in the opening session, I Hemochandra said that there are three main parameters of road safety namely vehicle, road infrastructure, and human behaviour.
"We follow the European standard of vehicle and pollution control system.
MoRTH has also taken up various expansion of road networks across the country but the quality of drivers is still lacking compared to the new road infrastructure and technology of vehicles in India", he added.
I Hemochandra also stressed on the need to improve the three parameters of road safety and educate children on road safety measures to prevent unwanted accidents.
Later, stationery items were distributed to the children who participated in the competition.
