Imphal, September 08 2015 :
Naga Peoples' Front (NPF) MLAs have resigned from their posts in the interest of the tribal people, stated MLA Victor Nunglung of 41 A/C Chandel.
He said this during an exclusive interview with Hueiyen Lanpao on Monday at his official residence located at Lamphel, Imphal.
Victor pointed out that the NPF MLAs are the only tribal opposition MLAs in the Manipur Legislative Assembly and the NPF MLAs tendered their resignation from the Assembly for the welfare of the tribal people.
Arguing that even the tribal MLAs of the Congress Party in the ruling dispensation could have resigned if they really thought about the rights of the tribal communities, Victor alleged that there was "no time to properly discuss the three Bills" in the emergency sitting of the last Assembly session on August 31.It may be mentioned that the three Bills namely The Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015; The Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishments (2nd Amendment 2015) were passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 .
The NPF MLA further asserted that some Congress MLAs raised the Naga political issue during the session instead of the Bills.
Victor argued this was done to "divert the minds of the tribal MLAs on the Bills " .
While alleging that the State Government had also by-passed the Hill Area Committee (HAC), the NPF MLA reminded that various tribal civil society organisations had demanded the tribal MLAs to tender resignation from Manipur Legislative Assembly.
On the future possible steps likely to be taken up by the NPF MLAs, Victor opined that as of now everything depend on the State Government if it was willing to listen to the voice of the tribal communities.
