SSU holds protest rally, lashes out at Government for inaction on key issues

Concerned over the various looming issues the State is facing, Socialist Students Union of Manipur on Thursday demonstrated a protest rally largely participated by the students of Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School in Bishnupur.
The protest rally which raised many slogans condemning inaction of the Government on key issues - border dispute with Myanmar, indigenous people's protection Bill, transfer and posting policy of Government, weight-lifter Sanjita's doping charge - started from the campus of the school, reached Ningthoukhong Bazar and later ended at the school campus.
Speaking at the rally, president of the Socialist Students Union appealed the authorities of the Government to take up the issue of boundary dispute to respective Myanmar counterparts and assure that the State boundary is not altered.
Regarding the indigenous people's protection Bill which the Government is likely to table and pass before the monsoon session, the union demanded that the Bill be made public for discussion before it is tabled in the Assembly.
Condemning the teachers transfer and posting policy of the Government, the union demanded for more transparency.
It may be mentioned that the Government and the department concerned have been facing numerous complaints and condemnations from various CSOs, schools and colleges over teachers transfer/posting and utilization policy.
The current policy have been identified by many student bodies and CSOs as one main factor contributing to shortage of teachers in many schools and colleges across the State.
There have been reports of severe shortage of teachers in some schools in Jiribam and in hill districts.
The rally also demanded 'justice' to Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu, a two time Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist weightlifter, Who was charged for doping.
Sanjita is facing a four year ban after the International Weightlifting Federation said she had tested positive for the anabolic steroid testosterone.
Sanjita Cahnu, a native of Kakching Khunou Umathel Awang Leikai and now residing in Thongju part II, had categorically denied the doping charge and had vowed to fight the charge against her.
Appealing for a DNA test to confirm and clear the charge against her, Sanjita Chanu had expressed apprehension over the availability of 'two samples' for a particular test.
It may be mentioned that Kakching Khunou Educational Forum (KKEF) and many other organisations have denounced the doping charge.
All Kakching Khunou Sports Association (AKSA) and JAC against Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu's injustice doping conspiracy had jointly staged a protest rally earlier calling for a DNA test.
