Call off bandh: ATSUM

The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has appealed to the Thadou Students' Association, (TSA Ghs) Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation, North East India (RSO-NEI) and Liangmei Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR-AMN) to call off the proposed indefinite State-wide bandh scheduled to begin from July 6, as ATSUM is consistently pursuing the issue of recruitment of MIL lecturers inHigher Secondary Schools under ATSUM's Charter of Demands and is also on the verge of implementation.
Moreover, with regard to the Manipur University impasse, ATSUM with the apex student bodies ofKuki and Naga along with MUTSU after round of meetings have taken necessary measures to resolve the Manipur University (MU) issue on behalfofthe tribal students, said ATSUM inastatementadded that calling an indefinite State-wide bandh on these issues will cause unnecessary disturbance to the public.
The statement further said mat in the first place when TSA-GHQs initiated and mobilized some tribe based student organisations on recruitment of MIL lecturers in Hr.

Schools, ATSUM had officially written a letter requesting them to instead join hands with ATSUM as the demand for recruitment of MIL lecturers has already been put-up and pursued under ATSUM's Charter of Demand.
Coincidentally, on July 6 the proposed kick-off day of the indefinite State-wide bandh, Anusuiya Uikey, Vice Chairperson of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) and her team HK Damor, Member, NCST and PT Jameskutty, Deputy Secretary, NCST to the State of Manipur will be visiting the State at the request of ATSUM, added the statement.
A discussion on die "Awareness and Orientation Programme on Constitutional Rights ofthe Scheduled Tribes in India" and interaction will be held at TRI Conference Hall, Chingmeirong, Imphal on July 6 at 2.30 pm and at Churachandpur on July 7, said ATSUM and added that it would be in the interest of all to call off the proposed indefinite State-wide bandh.
