Kohima, February 05 2015:
Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang has won the "Confidence Motion" moved by him today on the Floor of Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
59 legislators in the House of 60 voted in favor of DAN Government headed by TR Zeliang and with this development the month-long political impasse that started early last month came to an end.
Moving the "Motion of Confidence" of his government, Chief Minister Zeliang narrated the political situation that pushed him to such a stage whereby he was compelled to seek for "Confidence Motion" of his Government in the state.
He alleged that within his party, misguided legislators desired to form a new "Council of Ministers" .
This group of legislators had made claims of "having the majority support of the NPF legislators" since the beginning of January 2015, he said.
"They even staked claim to form a new "Council of Ministers and presented themselves before the Honorable Governor and demanded the dismissal of my Government," he said.
"They even went to the extent of raising false and fabricated accusations against me and my family." He said he was thankful to the NPF party, parties of DAN coalition, his cabinet colleagues, the DAN party legislators and independent legislators for extending their support to him, and opposing the claims of this group.
Zeliang further disclosed that after they failed in their attempts to remove his government, they ultimately formed their own party on January 12, 2015, claiming that "their party is the NPF party." "I can only describe the efforts of this group to dismiss my government as a misadventure," he stated.
The chief minster expressed his appreciation to NPF party headed by Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu for displaying "understanding and tolerance towards the party legislators who appear to have been misguided." He, however, pointed out that the "understanding and tolerance towards the party legislators as aforesaid should not be construed as weakness" .
He said the party in its wisdom had decided that the "misguided party legislators" must be given the opportunity to realize the error of their ways, and return to the "party fold" .
Hoping that good sense would prevail, the chief minister said all the NPF party legislators would stand unitedly as one and vote in "favor of the motion expressing confidence on the Government" .
Stating that he stood before the August House, not to defend himself against rejection of the Motion of Confidence," Zeliang said he had rather volunteered to that motion of confidence on the DAN Government being headed by him in order to "break the log-jam and clear the airs of confusion created by the false propaganda of some people that I am heading a minority Government" .
