Imphal, February 05 2015:
A team of officials of National Health Mission (NHM), Imphal West led by Director Dr Okram Ibomcha embarked on an inspection drive to Upokpi Khunou today.
The team also conducted a free health camp at the village.
A remote area under Bishnupur district, Upokpi Khunou is considerably backward in the field of health and hygiene compared to other parts of the district.
Dr Ibomcha, during the drive, assured the local people of providing them necessary health care facility.
Acknowledging the lack of a health centre, the Director promised provisions of free medical facilities to the people once every week until the a proper health centre is set up.
The Mission would also provide ultrasound treatment and immunization to both expecting mothers and children every second Saturday of the month henceforth, the Director added.

Chlorine tablets were also distributed to the locals by the visiting team in an attempt to provide safer drinking water to the people.
The team also assured to distribute water storage tankers to the locals shortly for use until the establishment of water treatment plants in the area.
NHM is also working on a plan to turn Upokpi Khunou into a model village within a span of two years.
The department has therefore assured every form of assistance to provide safe drinking water, sanitary toilets, proper education and sufficient health centres to the people of the village.
Mention may be made that the village, out of the approximate 75 residential houses, has only one pucca/sanitary latrine.
The rest was found in deplorable and most unhygienic condition by the visiting team.
Lamenting the lack of proper sanitation system, the officials, during a discussion session with the locals held at the village today, expressed the need of constructing proper sanitation for a healthier living.
The team further assured that the developmental works of the village would be taken up shortly with assistance from other departments concerned.
This remote village in Bishnupur district, before the intervention of NHM, the villagers informed, received time to time assistance from an NGO group, the People Resource Development Association, PRDA.
