Govt assures fulfilling JAC's demands

Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Atrocities of Central Security Forces in Chandel District Wednesday met State Government representatives who assured fulfilling its charter of demands.
Following the meeting, it has been reported that indefinite bandh along the Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway (NH) 102 spearheaded by JAC was suspended.
However, late reports reaching here said there were stiff opposition to the decision of lifting the bandh.
KSO Tengnoupal block President Daniel Mate said the bandh would continue as the demand for replacing 24 AR from Tengnoupal Village and removal of check post at Lamkhai in Tengnoupal has not been granted.
He also expressed regret over the reported decision of the JAC.
Earlier, JAC Convenor Doumang Haokip said JAC members had a meeting with the Chief Minister; Deputy Chief Minister; Tengnoupal MLA D Korungthang and ADC Chandel Lhukhosei Zou for the second time Wednesday afternoon.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reportedly assured to put up the demands during a meeting of the Unified Command.
The JAC Convenor informed that after the meeting of the Unified Command, further steps would be conveyed by the Government through the local MLA.

Angshel Lamkang appealed for support to future course of action while expressing gratitude to all individuals and civil society organisations that had extended support to the indefinite bandh.
It may be mentioned that the charter of demands submitted by the JAC include transfer of 24 AR and its officers; free movement of local people after checking; removing of gate at Sita Lamkhai; deploying more security personnel to check vehicles and passengers travelling along the Highway; Separate Checking for private vehicles, passengers and goods carrying vehicles among others.
