Committed to improve power situation: CM

Conceding that power situation in the State is far from satisfactory, Chief Minister O Ibobi has stated that the State Government is com-mitted to ensure 20 hours power supply in a day in Imphal city and 12 to 14 hours a day in rural areas.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the golden jubilee function of All India Radio, Imphal held today at MFDC auditorium.
As of now, the Government is unable to ensure 18 to 28 hours of power supply in a day in Imphal city and electricity is still unavailable in many interior areas of the State, Ibobi admitted.
The Government is working to construct a power sub-station at Thanlon at the cost of Rs 70 crore so as to ensure power supply to Tipai-mukh and Parbung which are located close to Mizoram border.
In case AIR's high power transmitter located at Mayang Imphal is not connected to a dedicated power line, necessary arrangements can be made to connect a dedicated line to the transmitter from Yurembam power station, Ibobi stated.
AIR Imphal was set up on August 15, 1963 and different programmes broadcast during the last 50 years have been digitized and preserved.
Appreciating AIR Imp-hal's achievement of preser- ving old records, the Chief Minister lauded AIR Imphal for broadcasting news in Ma-nipuri language and 6 tribal dialects apart from broadcasting music and entertainment programmes in 23 different dialects.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry would be appri- sed to fill up vacant posts in AIR Imphal, Ibobi assured.
AIR and Doordarshan North Eastern region Additional Director C Lalrosanga too hailed AIR Imphal for broadcasting programmes in 23 different dialects.
The golden jubilee function culminated with presenta- tion of gifts to seven retired Director, engineer, announcer and lyricist of AIR Imphal.
