Imphal, June 22 2025:
Agriculture Director Peter Salam has called upon all farmers of the State to focus on steadily replacing chemical fertilizers with biofertilizers.
He was speaking at a distribution of agricultural inputs held under the banner "Farmers Field Level Demonstration on Use of Biofertilizers in Rice Cultivation" at Lainingthou Pureiromba premises, Lamlai Awang Leikai, Imphal East.
Speaking at the event organised by Agriculture Department and Green Biotech Ecosolution Private Limited, Lamsang, Peter Salam said that high-yielding paddy seeds and three metric tonnes of biofertilizers would be made available to farmers this paddy season.
He said that the Agriculture Department has initiated necessary measures to see that farmers do not face any shortage of fertilizers this year.
High-yielding paddy seeds are being made available to farmers at Rs 6 per Kg.
These high-yielding paddy seeds were bought by the Agriculture Department from ICAR and KVK at Rs 60 per Kg.
Fertilizers are also being made available to farmers in adequate quantities at 54 distribution points spread across the hills and the valley districts, the Agriculture Director said.
Informing that the distribution of fertilizers which started on June 16 will close on June 25, he called upon all the farmers to focus on replacing chemical fertilizers with biofertilizers even though chemical Fertilizers are being provided.
He went on to claim that the Agriculture Department has been working hard to promote natural farming, organic farming and biofertilizers.
Agriculture Department and Green Biotech Ecosolution Private Limited will provide biofertilizers for 225 sangams of paddy fields including 150 sangams in Imphal East, 50 sangams in Imphal West and 25 sangams in Thoubal.
Both chemical fertilizers and biofertilizers would be used in these 225 sangams of paddy fields at the ratio of 75:25, Peter Salam said.
He said that chemical fertilizers cannot be replaced with biofertilizers at once.
It should be a slow and steady process, he added.
The programme also featured a demonstration by experts on how to use biofertilizers.
