A well-placed source, however, said that the actual figure of Dengue cases in Manipur could be significantly higher than reported, as confirmation of suspected and clinically positive cases is being done at RIMS and JNIMS Hospitals only.
Reports suggest that around 10 suspected Dengue cases have been identified in Churachandpur, but their results remain unconfirmed due to certain issues preventing sample transportation to RIMS or JNIMS for confirmation.
Another source stated that Kangpokpi reported 94 cases (both clinically positive and confirmed) last year, but there have not been many suspected cases this year.
Jiribam and Pherzawl have not reported a single case this year.
One Dengue related death was reported from Bishnupur earlier this year.
According to experts, Dengue mosquitoes breed in fresh water that accumulates in various household and outdoor containers, such as flower vases, broken utensils, unused tires, and even refrigerator trays.
These areas provide an ideal breeding ground for the Aedes mosquito, which spreads Dengue fever.
To prevent breeding, it is crucial to cover water containers, regularly inspect for stagnant water around homes and public areas, and frequently clean and dry containers.
