Cabinet gives nod to Tourism Development Society

To give the much needed boost to the tourism sector, the State Cabinet which met today agreed upon setting up a Manipur Tourism Development Society as well as to give a one time relaxation to the Manipur Education Service Rules, 2012 .
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Government spokesperson and CAF and PD Minister M Okendro said that though Manipur has vast tourism potential, it has not been able to exploit the advantages.
It is to explore the potential that the Cabinet decided to set up the Manipur Tourism Development Society, said Okendro and added that a boost in tourism will go a long way in providing employment avenues to the youngsters as well as help the State financially.
Chief Minister O Ibobi who also holds the Tourism portfolio will head the Society as its chairman, said the spokesperson and added that the Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism and Principal Secretary of Tourism Department will be the vice chairman and chairman of the Executive Committee respectively.
The Society will lay due emphasis on publicity campaign, marketing and others to boost the tourism sector, said Okendro and added that the Society will be run by grant-in-aid funds from State Government/Planning Department as well as funds from the work agencies.
Okendro further said that the Cabinet has agreed to give a one time relaxation to Rule 5 of the Manipur Education Service Rules, 2012 .
Under the rule, 53 Deputy Inspector of School (Grade II) .
Out of the total of 53 posts, 26 will be on the basis of promotion from Grade III to Grade II while the rest will be filled up through a Limited Competitive Examination.
To recruit the rest, that is 27, the State Government has already sent the requisition notice to the MPSC.
Stating that the decision has been taken up to streamline and improve school administration, the spokesperson said that DI and AI who have been in service for five years on a regular basis will be eligible for the promotion to DI Grade II .
However as of now there is not a single DI or AI who have served for five years as a regular employee and the status quo will remain till 2019-2020 .
Therefore the Cabinet decided to give a one time relaxation to the rules and conduct an open competitive examination for direct recruitment.
On the other agenda discussed during the meeting today, Okendro said that the Cabinet agreed to provide Government jobs to the spouses of two URF cadres Irengbam Bode alias Washington of Awang Khunou and Pukhrambam Somorjit of Waheng Khuman, who were found killed inside the URF designated camp at Loitang Khunou Spinning Mill some time back.
The URF has signed a pact with the Government.
The Cabinet also agreed to extend an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the family members of the two persons killed in a bomb blast at Singjamei recently, Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured and Rs 10,000 to those who suffered minor injuries.
Two migrant workers from Bihar were killed while 15 others were injured in the bomb blast.
The Cabinet also gave its assent implement the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Diversion) Rules, 2014 .
The agenda on using red beacon lights has been deferred to a latter date.
