Speaking to the media, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Dr Nepram Sanjib said that the incident took place at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at around 6.30 pm yesterday over a case pertaining to threatened abortion.
Saying that the person who assaulted the doctor has been arrested, he added that the authority at RIMS takes any assault on doctors seriously.
He appealed to the people to not resort to violence or attack the medical practitioners for shortcoming in treatment or dissatisfaction with the service provided.

Saying that they treat every patient equally, Dr Sanjib added that the patient party can always lodge their complaint to the grievance redressal cell of the hospital.
He further said that the doctors initially planned to stage a cease work strike but the same was cancelled as many people have been waiting to undergo surgery at the hospital since the last two-three months.
Continuing that they don't want any ill feeling with any patient party, Dr Sanjib added that they would hold a talk with the arrested person and resolve the issue.
Placards that read "We condemn violence against doctors in the workplace", "Assaulting doctor is a crime", and "No more violence against doctors" were displayed among others or dissatisfaction with the service provided.
