Imphal, June 01:
The Non-Teaching Employees' Association of RIMS has decried the failure of the RIMS authority to fulfil most of its 27 point charter of demands.
Speaking to media persons this morning, president of the Association Y Rajen recalled that earlier when the hospital was known as Regional Medical College (RMC), in-patients were provided facilities for free investigation.
Moreover life-saving drugs and breakfast were also provided free of cost to in-patients.
However, at present all these provisions have been withdrawn, he noted.
On the other hand, besides provision of free life-saving drugs, all medical investigations are being done free of cost in all hospitals under Mizoram Government.
Nevertheless, it hailed the announcement of the Union Health Minister that all patients belonging to BPL families will be provided free medical treatment in RIMS.
The announcement came after persistent persuasion by the association, Rajen claimed.
Taking part in the press meet, advisor of the association M Bira, while noting that the RIMS authority has been claiming to upgrade RIMS to the status of AIMS, questioned as to how far the upgradation would go.
He also asked whether the staff of RIMS would be treated as Central Government employees.
Observing that the existing condition of RIMS is far from satisfactory, Bira alleged that the RIMS authority seems to have little concern for the old buildings and drainage system of the institute.
The existing staff and patient parties are facing several inconveniences, he added.
Taking serious note of all these inconveniences and inadequacies, the Non-Teaching Employees' Association submitted a charter of demands containing 27 points to the RIMS authority, Bira informed.
After that, the association talked with the RIMS authority from time to time on implementation of its charter of demands.
Even though some demands of the association have been fulfilled by the authority, a larger part of the charter of demands remain unfulfilled, he decried.
