Bishnupur, July 30 2024:
A public meeting was held today at Phairembam Mandap, Moirang to deliberate on the plights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) on the theme 'IDPs Rehabilitation Rally', organised by INDIA Bloc Manipur.
The meeting resolved to urge the Government to fame a special law in the State Legislative Assembly Session scheduled to begin from tomorrow for the rehabilitation and resettlement for IDPs who have been adversely affected by the outbreak of the tragic ethnic conflict on May 3 last year.
Today's meeting was attended by Secretary CPI L Sotinkumar; Secretary CPI (M) Kh Shanta; Working President Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Kh Devabrata; Vice-president MPCC Harishwore Goswami; Kh Gyaneshore of Forward Block; president Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State Unit S Iboyaima; member of CPI(M) Sharat; Co-Convenor AITC N Thanin; AAP Convenor Bishwanath Th, former MLA of Moirang AC and Secretary MPCC P Sharatchandra and General Secretary MPCC S Jiten among others.
Addressing the gathering, MPCC Working president Kh Devabrata highlighted the problems and inconveniences faced by the IDPs.
In view of the immense difficulties faced by the IDPs who have suffered major losses, Devabrata said that the IDPs Rehabilitation Rally has been organised to urge the Government to take up special measures for the well-being of the IDPs.
Referring to the recent video which went viral in social media where a Meitei house was destroyed using powerful explosives at Churachandpur, Devabrata raised serious concern since no measures have been taken up by Churachandpur District Administration, SP and relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
'It shows the incompetency on the part of the Government which has failed to investigate a matter which occurred in the State', he remarked.
Talking about the heartwrenching incidents in relief camps, he cited the case of suicide of a displaced victim and pitiable conditions of displaced victims for more than 14 months with no signs of restoration of peace and harmony in the State.
Amid this challenging phase, he maintained that it is highly important to frame special provisions such as opening centres/offices to address the grievances of IDPs at their convenience.
To streamline the process of resolving the issues of displaced victims, the MPCC working president underscored the need to formulate a special law by the Government at the earliest.
