Imphal, March 27 2026:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has warned the Government that a strong public movementwill be launched if the proposed census and delimitation exercises proceed without first identifying 'outsiders'.
The AMSU's 46th Realisation Month, themed "Realise to Save the Indigenous Peoples of Manipur", continued today with academic campaigns at Yumnam Huidrom Higher Secondary School and Uchiwa High School, spreading awareness on preserving indigenous heritage.
During the campaign, AMSU president Lukram Malangba highlighted the critical demographic shift in Manipur since its merger with India, noting a significant influx of non-indigenous people that threatens to make the majority Meetei community a minority.
He stressed the urgency of the situation and criticized the Government for allegedly neglecting the issue and simply following directives from Delhi.
"There should be no objection to identifying outsiders", Malangba stated, adding that it is the Government's responsibility to act proactively rather than waiting for a public uprising.
He lamented that the Government's inaction suggests a disregard for the people's wishes.
"AMSU has been working for a long time to protect Manipur from the threat of outsiders and remains committed to the cause" Malangba said, urging students and the public to unite in safeguarding the State.
The events were also attended by Yumnam Joy, Principal of Yumnam Huidrom Higher Secondary School; Th Jibanlata, Headmistress of Uchiwa High School; Huidrom Punsiba, AMSU organisation secretary; and many other students and AMSU officials.
